In the article Ed Frawley's Philosophy of Dog Training by Ed Frawley he talks about the appropriate time to begin training a dog. Ed states, "it begins when you decide to relate to your dog in manner that both you and the dog respect and understand" (Frawley 1). He also says it is good to be consistent with your training like taking the dog to use the restroom. Two to three times a day is perfect. He also says if a dog does something wrong you should not correct him because you think he knows better. It is better to encourage rather than to punish.
I completely agree with being consistent and encouraging the good things dogs do. The only problem I have is if you never punish a dog they will never understand what is wrong and what is right. I think a good whooping when they do something bad like use the restroom inside will make them understand that it is unacceptable.
